Description

This stylish, new hotel in the centre of Lisbon was designed by the famous Portuguese architect Francisco Aires, who sympathetically converted an early 20th century building into a fusion of modern and historic aspects. The interiors are both stylish and comfortable, with a clean and sleek ambiance, and the 139 rooms have been fitted with large luxurious windows to enable the guests to enjoy views of Lisbon.

Dining facilities in the luxury Fontana Park hotel in Lisbon include the Saldanha Mar restaurant that specialises in modern Portuguese seafood in stylish decor, and the Japanese Bonsai restaurant featuring a 100-year-old bonsai tree. A peaceful garden restaurant and a sushi bar complete the more informal dining possibilities. Seminars and conferences may be hosted in the nine meeting rooms at your disposal.

Lisbon

Lisbon is a European capital city that has managed to maintain a charming, eccentric & easy-going sensibility that makes it a true pleasure to visit. The many superb attractions include the maze-like medieval streets of the historic Alfama district, the vibrant Bairro Alto that is the heart of Lisbon's nightlife, neighbouring Chiado which is home to many theatres and upmarket shops, the district of Belem where many of the cultural monuments are located such as the Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery. Outside Lisbon visiting the astonishing Sintra - a UNESCO World heritage Site - is a must, and a day trip to Estoril and Cascais makes a lovely break from the city, as does an excursion to the excellent seafood restaurants of picturesque fishing village of Sesimbra.

But Lisbon is also about the small things - finding a leafy square in the Bairro Alto, the cafe at the top of the Santa Justa Elevator, the Line 28 tram and funiculars, sipping ginja (cherry liquor) outside a tiny hole-in-the-wall bar before a night out, getting hopelessly lost in the Alfama, the cheery beach shacks at Caparica, the policemen on Segways, dining outdoors in November, the shops piled high with salt cod, the lovely train journey to Cascais. In a world becoming more homogenous every day, Lisbon's charms and eccentricities never fail to bring a broad smile to the face.
